Navachetan Convent is situated in a nature-blessed place called Venur on the banks of the river Palguni in BelthangadyTaluk of Dakshina Kannada District, fifty-five kilometres north-east of Mangalore on the Mangalore – Dharmasthala highway. The hard work of earlier missionaries bore fruit with the establishment of Christ the King Church in 1937. Christa Raj Ashram came into being in 1972 where the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters gave the taste of God’s love by their dedicated service at Venur. Navachetan Convent was a filial house and on August 11, 2007 it became a full-fledged community.
The two projects namely ‘Grahini Social Centre’ and ‘Christharaj Navachethan Special School’ have been aiming at the service of the marginalized, namely women and differently abled children are regarded unique. In 1975 Grahini Social Centre came into existence and on September 20, 1998 Christhraj Navachethan Special School started to function in Navachethan campus. A third unanticipated programme was initiated in the Navachethan campus is Navachethan Play Home. On the request made by the people of the locality to the Sisters to open an English medium school was carefully studied. The Provincial Rev. Sr. Lenita D’Souza and her Council decided to open the nursery school. To start a primary school was not yet on the cards. One of the quarters used for Grihini Training became the temporary shelter for the school. Under the efficient leadership of Sr. Irene Mathias, and Sr. Laveena D’Souza in the teaching faculty, the children 30 in number got their basic training in academic, spiritual, ethical and patriotic aspects.
In the year 2011 Sr. Mary D’Souza took charge as headmistress. Within a short span of time she became very popular and the student strength sharply increased. Navachethan Pre Primary School obtained its permission to start the school from the Educational Department on15.05.2012. Hence Navachethan Pre Primary School was opened on June 4, 2012 and the first floor of the Christharaj Navachetan Boarding was used as a classroom.
The Number of students was steadily increasing hence there was a need for the construction of a new building. It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes our mission fruitful. Sr. Mary D’Souza, the Correspondent of the school worked hard in realizing the dream. She was available at the building spot all 24×7 hours. The full construction of the building of four floors was completed and the same was gracefully inaugurated on 19 th January 2015. To date, three hundred students passed from this school and at present 120 students study here in the year 2017-18 getting good care. The school is growing with the good will of the people.
