Ave Maria School

FAJIR,BANTWAL

Fajir in Bantwal Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District is about 12 kilometers South East of Mangalore. Ursuline Franciscan Sisters started to work in Fajir on June 4, 1938. To meet the needs of the people a play home was started in the year 2005. In June 2013 as Little Angels Pre Primary school, Fajir got permission from the Education Department and the play home was converted into Pre primary School. With 80 students in the year 2013.

Little Angels Pre-Primary School paved way for Ave Maria School, Fajir . The parents made a strong demand to the Management that they wanted the continuity of education for their children. It was a time of discernment for the Sisters as investing on a school was always a risk. It was Rev. Sr. Lenita D’Souza, the Provincial Superior who took a very courageous step to start a school for which she obtained prior, written permission from the Bishop of Mangalore and permission from the parish priest of Fajir, Rev. Fr. Stany Pereira. Sr Lilly Pinto, the Deputy Secretary worked for the permission and Ave Maria School, Fajir started functioning from June 3, 2013 with 26 students.

Sr. Preema D’Souza K.hailing from Vorkady, Kasargod District in North Kerala. She studied her primary education in St. Joseph A. U. P. School, Vorkady and High school studies in Capitanio High School, Mangalore.She was trained as a teacher in Rosa Mystica Teaacher’s Training College, Gurpura, Kaikamba. She did her graduation under Mangalore University. She has also done her counselling and Leadership course along with her Franciscan Spirituality studies.

Sr. Preema D’Souza K.worked as a teacher for a year in Anand Ashram Convent English Medium Hr. Pry. School Bhatkal, Uttar Kannada District and for 4 years in Loretto Hr. Pry. School, Bantwal Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District. Since 2013 Sr. Preema D’Souza is working as a Headmistress in Ave Maria School, Fajir.

She has a desire to do Master’s degree in English Literature and develop the Language talent in students.

A new school building is constructed and Mangalore Province financed the construction. Blessing and laying of the foundation stone was done on June 17, 2013 by Rev. Fr. Stany Periera and Rev. Sr. Lenita D’Souza, Provincial Superior of Mangalore Province respectively. The New building was ready for use. The ground floor and the first floor was inaugurated on 5 th June 2014Rev. Fr. Stany Pereira blessed the new building and Rev. Sr. Doreen D’Souza the Superior General, inaugurated the same. God works all for good. On December 5 th 2015 the School got the permission from the Education Department to run the classes in English Medium. Then onwards the number of students increased. At present in the academic year 2017-18 there are one to five classes with a total number of 243 students.

Perceiving the need for the future continuation of studies of these students, Rev. Sr. Rita Vas the Provincial of Mangalore Province has taken interest to construct additional two more floors to the building. The building is under construction and is financed by the Province. The school has a spacious play ground and well furnished classes. C.C.T.V and fire extinguishers are provided for the safety of the students.

Students are provided with all round development skills. Along with the curricular studies they participate in Cultural Programmes such as “Prathibha Karanji” and Karate Classes. In the year 2016-17 3 rd standard student Manya bagged 2 nd place in Hindi recitation in District Level Prathibha Karanji Competition. Students participate in Chinthana Competitive exams and have won many places in district. The Bul Buls, CUBS, Girl Guide and Scouts are initiated in the school. The National Festivals are celebrated. Annual Day celebration is an yearly phenomena which gives an ample opportunity to the students to unearth their dormant talents. Sr. Preema D’Souza K., young, energetic and jovial, headmistress, who shows every sign of fulfilling the expectations of the parents as well as that of the Management, was appointed as the first Headmistress of the school in the year 2013.She works hard for the growth of the institution as well as that of the students. God has blessed this School and he will make it bloom and grow.
