Baheri is a small but slowly and steadily developing township at Uttarkand- Western Uttar Pradesh border. It is in the northern most region of Bareilly District. It is a mixture of all major castes and religions living together peacefully. Muslims constitute a majority of the population here. Baheri has an average literacy rate of 72% higher than the national average of 59.5%. It experiences hot summer, chilly winter and heavy monsoons.
In1993, through the instrumentality of Rev Sr Edilburga Monteiro, the Superior General and Sr Alphonsa Fernandes, Councillor General this Convent and School were started. Most Rev Bishop Anthony Fernandes of Bareilly Diocese invited the Ursuline Franciscans to start the mission and offered them land.. Recognizing the educational needs of the locality and also to attend to the self-sufficiency of the North Mission, Sisters ventured into starting a nursery and a primary school in Baheri on July 1, 1993 with 47 students. Sr Jenvita Pinto and Sr Rosy Tellis did the spade work and supervised the construction of the school building.
The first Principal Sr Jacintha Cutinha with her staff Sisters Edith Rodrigues, Monthi Fernandes and Philomena Moras began their education apostolate at Baheri with confidence. In 1996 Sr Apoline Pinto was appointed principal. When Sr Benny Tellis took charge in 1999 the classes had progressed to grade VII. The great task of obtaining a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from UP Government was before her. In this venture Fr Richard Pinto OFM Cap did a commendable job. In July, 2001 Sr Antonette took charge as Principal.
By August 2001 the NOC was obtained. Immediately the headmistress applied for affiliation. The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) Board authorized Fr Richard Pinto OFM Cap to inspect the School. Soon after he submitted the report, the school was affiliated to ICSE, New Delhi.
Once again, due to the pressure from the people the upgrading of the school to ISC (class 12) was worked out. It was upgraded in 2005. Thereafter, in 2006 the first batch of students was enrolled for class 11. Sr Felcy Vas took over the administration in 2006. As the number of children increased a hall and six classrooms were constructed in 2010 under the supervision of Sr Julia Noronha. It was financed by the Swiss Province of OFM Cap, Mission Zentrale and North Province. At present the building has two floors with a magnificent hall which is used by the students. Around 400 students have successfully completed their studies and passed through the portals of this School. The School is equipped with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Labs, a good library, sufficient playground, a permanent stage, children’s park, attractive and colorfully painted nursery classrooms and an audio – visual room.
Assisi Convent Inter College has achieved 100% results most of the years in ICSE. This speaks highly of the standards maintained in the School. At present there are 1245 students studying in Assisi Convent School. Committed, hardworking, efficient and dedicated staff, promising students and supportive parents is the strength of this School.
