HD Kote – ‘Heggada Devana Kote’ in its full form is the taluk headquarters, one of the most backward and poverty-stricken talukas of Mysore District. It is 53 kilometers south-west of Mysore. HD Kote town is taluk headquarters and hence many officials reside here. Most of them had their education in Christian institutions and hence wanted their children to be trained in such institutions. They put forth their request for an institution before the then Bishop, Most Rev. Mathias Fernandes as well as Fr William Pinto the parish priest of Naganahalli. They in turn approached with a request the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters who were rendering remarkable service at Hunsur and Naganahalli since 1956 and 1965 respectively. Mother Ernestine responded to their request and the Sisters arrived at HD Kote on June 2, 1978. In the same year they started nursery classes in the church hall as the school building was still in the making.
Sr Beatrice D’Silva and Sr Adelfi D’Souza bought five acres of land for the purpose of setting up the school building and convent. With the assistance of MISSIO and the Generalate, a school as well as a convent building was erected within a year and a formal Kannada medium school (Class 1) was started on June 1, 1979. It graded up to class VII with well attended classrooms.
Sr Monthi Lobo (1978-79, 1989-99), Sr Lumina D’Souza (1979-1989), Sr Benvita D’Souza (1999-2006), Sr Jane Crasta (2006-2009) Sr Philomena Noronha(2009-2014) have contributed greatly in bringing fullness of life to the students who entered the portals of this school. Scouts, guides, bulbuls and other extracurricular activities are additions towards empowerment of the students. At present Sr. Olivia Miranda is the Headmistress of the school. 511 sudents are studying up to 7th Standard in the year 2017-18
Needs are many, but funds are scarce. A school hall, a dining shed for the children to have their midday meals, dust-free play-ground, a cycle stand, sufficient number of toilets are to be given consideration, priority wise.
