St Joseph Degree College, Hunsur

St. Joseph’s First grade College Hunsur, Mysore District started on 1st July 2014 with 23 students. Sr.Emily D’Souza was the First Principal. As the degree college had no building of its own the classes were conducted in St. Joseph’s PU College building.

Though the college obtained the permission to start B.Com and BCA, the beginning was only with B.Com in 2014 with 23 students. Later on 1st July 2016 BCA course was started along with BA. The beginnings are always humble there were 15 students to each course. At present there are 198 students studying in the college in B.Com, BCA, and BA classes.
Sr. Deepthi C K was appointed on 1st of July 2016 as the new Principal of the college in the place of Sr. Emily D’Souza.

In its Inception of St. Joseph’s first grade College Hunsur, classes were conducted in St. Joseph’s PU College building itself. Three classrooms were ready to occupy with a blessing by our parish priest Rev. Fr. J Rayappa on 17-09-2016. Only the B.Com Classes were shifted to the new building. St. Joseph’s First Grade College New building was inaugurated on 26-10-2017 .It was blessed by Rt.Rev. K.A William Bishop of Mysore and inaugurated by Rev.Sr.Apoline cordeiro Provincial Superior,Mysore province and Rev.Sr.Lucy Lilly Pinto ,Secretary of UFES was the Chief guest of the day. Large number of Religious Sisters, Priests ,Parents, staff and students of St. Joseph’s Institution’s Hunsur participated in the event and all the classes were completely shifted to the new building on 18-12-2017. Now the New building of the College consists of sufficient class rooms, well equipped Computer, geography Lab, NSS & YRC Rooms, Stock and Store Rooms, Class rooms, Staff Rooms, spacious library, separate language and Audio Visual Labs, Spacious office rooms and reception counter and Green garden.

First Batch of B.Com students passed out in 2016 with 100 % result and Nadiya of this batch has bagged Gold medal and cash prize for securing highest marks in University of Mysore in the subject of Banking and Insurance.

Three of our Students namely Priyadharshini I BA and Sumiya Banu I BCA in 2016 and Sara of I BCA in 2017 has bagged first place in All India Essay writing Competition held by UNICEF for India and Bhutan.

Jeswine represented Mysore University in South Zone Volley Ball match that was held from 18-29 December 2017.

JUNE 2024 

26.6.2024: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was celebrated at St Joseph’s PU College aligning with global efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the urgent need to curb illicit trafficking. An enactment done by the Arts students aimed at educating students about the risks associated with drug abuse and the importance of drug free society.

21.06.2024: International Yoga Day enthusiastically observed at St Joseph’s PU College, reflecting the global recognition of Yoga’s importance for physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. The event was organized by the sports club and II year EBAC students. And students were encouraged to do Yoga every day.

 12.6.24: World Day against Child Labor was observed at St Joseph’s PU College.

1. 06.24:  St Joseph PU College welcomed the first years with meaningful prayer service and small programme.

 

 

JUNE – JULY 2023

Farewell was organized on 14^th of July to bid goodbye and a commemoration to celebrate all the good times together and wishing the best for the future to all the final year students. The main significance is that it allowed the final year students to narrate their experiences as well as guide their junior students.

TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

To enhance leadership skills in our students five days of Transformative leadership program was organized in AJJANAHALLI, RAMNAGARA from 30-06-2023 to 03-07-2023, which enabled to increase their emotional intelligence and communication skills. It also helped to build team spirit and collaboration among the students.

TALUK LEVEL TABLO COMPETETION

On the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava local government organised the Tablo competition in the theme of literature and culture of Karnataka .More than 15 educational institutions were participated in the event. Our students performed tremendously. We represented   Vijayanagara   Emperor   and JNANAPEETHA AWADEES and got the first prize awarded with 50000/-  cash prize and a trophy.

Inter Pre University COMPETITIONS

     In the view of development along with the academic career and promotions for the college as wells as cultural activities and sports we organized the Inter Pre University Competitions for the PUC students .More than 400 students were participated from different zones such as BILIKERE, K R NAGAR, PERIYAPATTANA, HUNSUR , H D KOTE, AND BETTADAPURA .Solo Singing Group Singing, Group Dance, Fashion Show and also Throw Ball and Volley Ball were conducted for both Boys and Girls Separately.

FRESHER’S DAY

          It was an official welcoming ceremony for the new students organised on the day of 15^th November 2022.Mr.RAJA G C, Sub Inspector Vidyaranyapuram Police Station, Mysuru City was invited as a chief guest .He inspired the students with his intellectual knowledge and shared his professional experience.

FEBRAURY  2022

College election was held on 07-01-2022 at St. Joseph’s First Grade College, Hunsur. The College cabinet was formed and oath taking ceremony was organized on 03/02/2022. The student cabinet of the college is a platform for students to exhibit leadership skills. It provides an opportunity for the students to manage student’s affairs, intra college and intercollegiate events.

JANUARY 2022

 Republic Day is a very special occasion for all Indians.On this occasion flag hosting and several cultural, patriotic programmes were organised.

DECEMBER 2021

Christmas was celebrated in the college and star competition was conducted for the students to promote their intellectual creativity and prizes were distributed for the winners.

Parichay and Nirgaman 2021 was held on 11-11-2021 at St. Joseph’s First Grade College.  It began with invocation song followed by welcome speech, prize distribution, game and cultural programmes by students. The chief guest Rev. Sr. Alice, Principal, St. Joseph’s First Grade College, Hunsur, motivated the students through her valuable words.

NOVEMBER 2021

On 27-11-021 our students participated in the intercollege competition organised by GSSS Mysore. They actively took part in fashion show, quiz, photography and ad-selfi competitions.

Paper craft, photography, quiz and other competitions were organised for PUC students to promote their skills.

Independence day was celebrated with the utmost fervor and zest and a spirit of patriotism to mark the innumerable sacrifices.

During covid -19 we have conducted more than 16 online webinars from 1^st june to 26^th june 2021 in different aspects from the various departments of the college such as  political science, economics, commerce, computer science, kannada, library and information science. JANUARY 2021

YOUTH FEST:  To mark the birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda “Youth Fest” was celebrated in St. Joseph’s First College, Hunsur on January 12^th, 2021. The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Sr Annie, administrator and Rev. Sr. Alice, Principal Head of the departments, teaching and non-teaching staff and the students.

 Fresher’s Day:   Fresher’s Day is a way to welcome new comers in a college, and it is considered particularly amazing event in St Josephs First Grade College.  Cheerfully we welcomed the freshers.

On this special day various competitions such as Cooking Without Fire, Hand Painting, Rangoli, Collage Work, Dancing, Singing, Mono Acting, Vegetable Carving, Photography  and cultural activities were held, in which students participated actively.

Cooking Without Fire: To develop the skill of non- flame dishes, the task of cooking without fire was conducted. The aim of the activity was to provide a platform for the students to showcase their talent and explore new areas of interest. It was conducted with a view to create awareness about the nutritional value of cooked without fire. The students prepared healthy dishes and they were served in an artistic and aesthetic way.

Hand Painting: Arts and crafts should be an essential part of any curriculum. On this note the students were encouraged to participate in the activity of Hand Painting, which helps them to exercise flexible thinking, de-stress, explore creativity and enhance learning through fun, the latter of which is the perfect indication of a healthy education.

Rangoli:  The Rangoli represents the happiness, positivity and liveliness of one’s household.   Traditionally, the postures needed to make Rangoli are kind of exercise for women to straight their spines. To inculcate the above values also to improve the imagination and innovative ideas among the students, the competition was held to add the traditional charm.

Vegetable Carving:  With the moto of learning the basic gestures and to improve     their techniques, the vegetable Carving competition was held.

JANUARY 2020

Special Lecture: Health is Wealth is the well Known slogan. Maintaining good health is possible only if we consume healthy food. Hence with the purpose of educating students on the need of consuming healthy food by avoiding junk food and the nutritional value of the food that we need to consume was well explained by Ramesha K L, Asst. Prof. Department of Home Science, Maharani College, Mysore  on 18-1-2020.100 students and 7 faculties participated and benefited from this.

College Tour: “We travel not to escape life But for life not to escape us”.  Thus to learn the differences of physical features, weather, cultural, linguistic, difference and many such learning was planned during the College tour to Kerala from 22 January – 26 January 2020. 34 students, 3 faculty accompanied by principal had enriching experience.

Competitions: a. Essay Competition: To nurture writing skill and to teach spirit of constructive expression on the given topic essay competition was held to our students on 23-01-2020.Students from all classes participated in it. b. Debate Competition: “Without debate, without criticism n administration and no country can succeed and no republic can survive”, said John F Kennedy. Debate competition was held to our students in our college on 28-01-2020.The topic “ Is media boon or curse for the survival of Democracy”.

OCTOBER 2019

2-10-2019 Gandhi Jayanthi: “ Strength does not come fromphysical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will” Gandhiji. 150 th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, father of our nation was celebrated in our college. The theme chosen for the occasion was “Relevence of Gandhi’s Priniples to todays context”. Students Ujwala and Rashmi spoke on the biography and Gandhi as Father of our nation. Jagadish K H, Asst. Professor of Commerce aptly and eloquently spoke on relevance of Gandhi in today’s context.

05-10-2019 Ecology day: “ He that plants trees, loves others besides himself. Said Thomas Fuller. Today Ecology Day was celebrated in our college in honour of St. Francis of Assisi patron of Ecologists. Sr.Therese D’Souza, Correspondant of St. Joseph’s Institutions presided over the programme, Mr. Ravi C, Asst. Professor of Physics Shri. D. Devaraj Urs College and amateur ecologist was the Chief Guest, Mr. Ravi Deepak, Principal of La Salette Vidyaniketan P U College Mardur, Sr Deepthi principal of our and others were present. 2-9-2019, Seminar on Social Media Education:- Social media has gained credibility over the years as a trusted source of information and plat form. We see education institutions adapting these developments in their systems and relying on group’s resources and mechanisms to improve the student life. The use of social media in education provides students with the ability to get more useful information, to connect with learning groups and other educational systems that make education convenient.

Saying of Germany Kent is also true, wherein she says, if you are on social media, and you are not learning, not laughing, not being inspired or not networking, then you are using it wrong. In order to awaken students about

Seminar was organized and the main speakers were Mr. Sunil, Karnataka Coordinator of RESCUE, and his collegues Arpitha and Madhu.

4-9-2019 Flood Relief Work:- Once Michel W Hawkins said, each of us as human beings has a responsibility to reach out to help our brothers and sisters affected by Floods. One day it may be us or our loved ones needing someone to reach out and help. Today a team lead by our principal consisting of correspondent, relief committee of Staff and Students distributed food articles, utensils and the things needed urgently for regular use, such as grocery and rice, mats and blankets, six sets of utensils including cookers, water containers such as drums, pots and buckets, to  the affected  SEVEN families of Hunsur and neighboring village.

5-9-2019 Teachers Day Celebration:- I think the teaching profession contributes more to the future of our society than any other single profession. Hence our student community organized a colorful teachers day celebration filled fun, laughter and a message. It was presided by our principal and all the teaching and non teaching faculty of the college.

7-9-2019 Oath taking Ceremony:- Our newly appointed College Cabinet sworn in with oath taking ceremony during our college assembly. Our Principal spoke on the objective of training future leaders of our society who would stand for truth, work with vision for the welfare of everyone in the society. It’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness.

20-9-2019 Participated in YUVA SAMBRAMA :- 45 students our college along with Cultural Coordinators participated in YUVA SAMBRAMA a stage set on the occasion of DASARA for the College Students at University campus Mysore. The Theme presented by our students was PRESERVATION OF NATURE AND MAN MADE DISASTERS. Our Principal Sr. Deepthi and other   7 faculty were also present.

JULY 2019

Seminar on Preservation of water:- International water preservation day was organized on 11-7-2019.Resource persons were Roopa, Environmental Engineer, Hunsur town municipality and Satish and Mohan Inspectors of Swachchata Abhiyana spoke on the Need and method of preserving clean water.

Planting sapling and Gardening :-Students participated in the green campus activity  organized in the college 13-7-2019,by planting plants and gardening.

Cleaning the campus of Government hospital: –Health is wealth’ with this slogan our students participated in cleaning the campus of the Government hospital,Hunsur on 18-7-2019.

National Seminar:-National seminar on NEW APPROACHES TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT was organized in our college on 22-7-2019.29 academicians from Karnataka and Tamilnadu presented paper. Alaa samy from Cairo,Egypt was also part of this seminar.

Preparing organic manure:- As part of preserving nature and enhancing our students learnt the process of preparing organic manure on 24-7-2019

Seminar on Social Media Education:-Seminar on Social media Education was organized for staff and students of our college on 2-8-2019.Resource persons were Mr.Sunil Karnataka Coordinator,Ms Arpitha and Madhu of an NGO named RESCUE .

AUGUST 2018

10.08.2018: NSS, Eco club and Youth Red Cross unit  of St Joseph College, organized rally in Hunsur town to create awareness among the people about use of plastics, scarcity of water and the urgency to care the earth by keeping clean and green. They voiced out slogans to protect earth and distributed good number of saplings to the people.

26. 07. 2018: Ro-track club was inaugurated in our college. The President of Rotary Club Mr Narahari of Hunsur was chief guest to this event. The aims and objectives of this club were intimated to students and their role in the growth of the society was demonstrated.
