Suntikoppa is situated in Kodagu, Karnataka. Kodagu is well known in the world for coffee and its “brave warriors”. Suntikoppa is a small township between Madikeri and Kushalnagar on the Mangalore-Mysore State Highway. Main attractions of Suntikoppa are coffee and pepper estates. People have migrated from far off places to Suntikoppa to work in estates and gain a livelihood.
Suntikoppa was a part of Madikeri (Merkara) parish. Fr.J.P.da.P Sequeira, the then parish priest, invited the Sisters to Suntikoppa. Sisters Clarina D’Souza, Margarita Rodrigues, Anicitus D’Souza, Hyacinth Pinto and Philomena D’Souza made their way to Suntikoppa as the pioneers of the new convent on March 2, 1957. Sr Clarina, the first headmistress, was able to start Classes I, II and III at a stretch in 1957 itself and within three years she managed to organize the institution to the middle school level. The parish priests served as managers until Fr Denis D’Souza handed over the management to the Sisters in 1964.
Sisters JulitaMenezes (1962-67), Placid Saldanha (1967-78), HildegardeRasquinha (1978-85; 1993-97), Blanch D’Souza (1985-90), Benvita D’Souza (1990-93), DulcineMoras (1997-99) JeswinaSerrao (1999-2005), Jovita Vas (2005-2007), Bridgit PJ (2007) and Cecilia Lobo (2007-2009) and Jane Crasta (2009- 2017 ) have proved to be successful headmistresses.
At present the strength of the students is falling rapidly due to the craze for English. Year by year teachers retire causing an increasing shortage of teachers. But the educational needs of the students are not diluted. Sr Veera D’Souza, the present headmistress, and the staff strive hard with innovative means to maintain and upgrade the standard.
The Institution is proud of sending 5763 well equipped future citizens, contributing to the wellness of society. At present there are 288 students. With a sense of commitment the teachers bring about changes in the mindsets and attitudes of students. Sisters maintain integrity and remain challenging witnesses in society by becoming agents of change and contributing to enhance the quality of life without discrimination for all, the high and the low.
