St Aloysius Girls Nursery and Primary School is located in Mbezi Beach area, Kinondoni District in Dar es Salaam. Mr Aloyce Ngowi and Mr Charles Mlawa of Mikocheni in Dar es Salaam are the owners of this School. Mr Aloyce and Mr Charles are entrepreneurs who wanted to start a school but could not do it independently and hence wanted someone who could do it for them. They approached Mr Wenclaus Setonga, the cousin of Fr Mansuetus Setonga, the then General Secretary of Same Diocese. Fr Mansuetus who had witnessed the dedicated work of the Sisters in the Diocese of Same suggested that Ursuline Franciscans could be the best choice. He did the spade work of bringing the Sisters in contact with Aloyce and Charles. Sr Edilburga, the Mission Superior welcomed this opportunity as this School was an entry point for the Sisters to extend their mission in another diocese of Tanzania. Presently the School is managed and run by the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters and governed by the School Committee Members.
The School started on January 16, 2006 with 19 pupils in Nursery and Primary – Standards one and two. Sr Irene D’Souza was the first Headmistress who took keen interest and worked very hard to bring up the standard of the School. Five teaching staff and two non-teaching staff supported her. She had laid a good foundation with the help of Sisters Leena Mathias and Vinola Iniappanavar who formed the pioneers. Sr. Leena Mathias was appointed as a headmistress and the superior until 2011. Sr She served as headmistress from June 2007 to December, 2011. Her efficiency proved in the all-round development of the School. Sr Vinola took up charge as Headmistress from 2012 t0 2014. When Sr Vinola took charge as headmistress, fifteen pupils answered their exams and the result was cent percent. In 2013, 25 pupils answered their exams in September and the School stood ninth in the top ten. The school has grown to the strength of 305 pupils. It is largely due to the good reputation the School has gained in the surrounding area.
Sr Nirmala Rodrigues served the institution from 2014 to 2017. There has been remarkable increase in numbers in pupils and works. It is largely due to the good reputation the School has gained in the surrounding area. At present we have 320 pupils, 20 teaching staff and 15 non teaching staff working under the motto ‘Education for fullness of life’ The only drawback of the school is that it has no playground which is a basic requirement to rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit of a child. However, the pupils play in the nearby public playground. Formation of the mind of the young is at heart at St Aloysius’. The School has left lasting imprints of the Compassionate love of our Lord Jesus Christ in pupils’ lives.
