I am delighted to welcome and invoke God’s blessings on all those who go through this website of Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society.
The Ursuline Franciscan Sisters are called by God to follow Jesus Christ in the footsteps of St Angela Merici, St Francis of Assisi and St Ursula our Patron saints, Fr Urban Stein SJ, our Founder, Mother Nympha Fernandez, the first Superior and the Pioneers to proclaim God’s love and bring Fullness of Life to the humanity.
The Ursuline Franciscan Congregation has history of 130 years in carrying out the formal and non formal educational institutions. Presently it is our privilege to carry forward this noble task. The XIII General Chapter of the Congregation held from April 30 to May 17, 2016 with a theme “Ursuline Franciscan Sisters: Taking a Stand, Making a Difference with the Mind and Heart of Christ” has challenged us to expose to the public the good done by our Educational Society through information- communication technology.
The Goal of the Education is to teach the students to live, to discover the deeper meaning of life and of transcendence, to learn to interact with others, love creation, think freely and critically, find fulfillment in work, plan their future, or in one word to learn ‘to be’. It is in and through Education that one can hope for a more human and humane future; and a more harmonious society. Thus our institutions truly become agents of transformation of the individual and indeed the society.
Having this Goal in mind the Ursuline Franciscan Education Society had its beginning in the year 1902 with the establishment of St Ursula Kannada Higher Primary School at Bolar, Mangalore; the Society was registered on April 3, 1964. Then onwards the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters have started to move to the place where no others can dare to step in unmindful of the difficulties and deprivations even of the necessities of life in Karnataka and other places. Through these our schools we reach out to the poor and needy children especially the girl children so that the weaker section of society be able to come up in life and move towards the main stream of society to attain transformation.
All our Educational institutions march forward with a vision ‘to give life, life in fullness’. Experiencing fullness of life is achieved through holistic education in a way seeing to the all-round development and formation giving greater importance to value based education. I am proud to say that our educational institutions have been successful in providing the ambience and opportunity for the holistic development of the child.
At this moment I express my gratitude along with my Councillors especially Sr Lucy Lily Pinto, the Secretary of UFES, to the Principals, Headmistresses, teaching and non-teaching staff for the generous service they render in our Institutions which are under our Management. I fondly remember all those who have labored in love and now gone before the Lord who were once the part of the Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society and pray eternal rest to them.
