Gundlupet is a small town of Chamarajnagar District in the southern part of Mysore at a distance of 61 kilometres. Gundlupet is the last town in Karnataka en route to Ooty, Wayanad, Kozhikode, situated very close to Tamil Nadu and Kerala State borders. It is located on the banks of the river Gundlu and hence the name. Previously this town was known as "Vijayapura" owing to the presence of the historical Vijayanarayana Temple.
Rev. Sr Jyothi Fernandes, the Provincial Superior and Sisters of Gundlupet community jointly decided to start an English medium higher primary school as there was a continuous pressure from the parents. Sensing the need, desire and wish of the locality the Secretary, Rev. Sr. Lilly Fernandez, Deputy secretary Rev. Sr. Lilly Rodrigues and Sr. Lilly D’souza took keen interest the permission was obtained on 27.03.2012 Hence Class VI in English medium section was started in one of the classrooms of the Kannada medium school. Sr Lilly D’Souza shouldered the responsibility as headmistress.
In the following year Rev. Fr Patrick Langue SJ, the Director of ‘Inde Espoir’, France, offered partial monetary assistance as well as the service of volunteers from France to construct the school building. The building with six classrooms was inaugurated on February 26, 2014.
At the same time Sr Lilly D’Souza has been working for permission to upgrade the School to high school level. Sr. Flavia Fernandes succeeded Sr. Lilly D’Souza in June 2014. Class IX was started with the permission from 01-06- 2015. Sr. Janet D’Souza took charge as the headmistress of Nirmala Convent English Medium School in the year 2015. Sr. Flavia Fernandes a daring soul worked hard for the permission to start English Medium from class 1 st to 5 th simultaneously. She succeeded in obtaining the permission for the same on 18-05- 2017 and the classes started from 01-06- 2017. At present there are 395 students in this school.
The Institution tries its best to articulate the vision and aim of the Ursuline Franciscan Education apostolate. It contributes to the evolution of a society where justice and peace take priority, amidst sound education.
