Holy Cross School Laxmichera is situated in the southern part of Tripura, surrounded by many distant villages. There are many Tribes like Reang, Tripuri, Debbarma and Jamatia. The Ursuline Franciscan Sisters of North East Province ventured in to the soil of Tripura for the first time in the year 2015 on 5th of June on the invitation of Rev Fr Abraham CSC the then Provincial of Holy Cross Fathers of North East Province. The main purpose of starting the Centre over here is to uplift the tribes especially the Reang who are very much poor and backward. This school will enable them to educate their children and also more convenient and affordable. The children need not leave their homes for their education purpose. On 6th July 2015 Holy Cross Primary school Lukhu was officially handed over by the principal Mr. Kanulal Reang to Ursuline Franciscan Sisters of North East Province in the presence of Rev. Sr. Milly Fernandes the Provincial Superior in the presence of Fr. Abraham the parish priest, village leaders, school board members, guardians, staff and the students. Sr Jessy D’Cunha, Sr Reshma Vinolia Rodrigues and Sr Agnes Rongmei the pioneering Sisters took up the task of education and pastoral care with the support of the local leaders of the village. Sr. Jessy D’Cunha became the First Headmistress of the School.

Two hostels one for the Boys and one for the girls which were taken care by Mr Kanulal catered to the education need of the children having their homes away from the school. In the year 2015 the Hostel for girls was handed over to the Sisters. The Sisters put up temporary tin structures for their residence as convent and also for the hostel children. At present there are over 50 girls in the hostel.

They are provided all the education facilities by the sisters. In the year 2016 Sr. Reshma Vinolia Rodrigues was transferred and Sr Augustine D’Souza and Sr Theresa Azusuli joined the pioneering group to be part of the mission of Laxmicherra.

The exodus of students to private schools which are mushrooming in Tripura state has put then Tripura government in fix. The situation was so serious that at least 100 government schools in the rural and hilly areas have virtually stopped functioning for lack of students. Since there were no schools for the children to avail the basic education, the sisters of North East province ventured to the place in 2015 mainly to uplift the Reang tribal children and the people of Lohu, Laxmichera.

At present there are 16 teaching staff, one non teaching staff and 347 students studying in the year 2018. The support of the parents, the cooperation of the students, the affection both of the parents and the students towards the Institution will boost the Sisters to enhance the educational Endeavour in Lokhu, Laxmichera. It is the hope and dream of the Management that this School moulds students’ character and well-being of society and that it reaches greater heights in the service of a cause.

Sr. Jacintha D’ Cunha is hailing from Amtoor, Karigana, Bantwal Taluk, Karnataka. She did her Primary education in Government Higher Primary Schhol, Kalladka and High School in Shri Sharada High Schhol, Panemangalore, Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka She completed her Pre University College Studies in Government College, Lunglei, Mizoram and obtained her Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in the same College.

Sr. Jacintha D’ Cunha did her Professional studies in Teachers Training Certificate (T.T.C.) in St. Ann’s School, Mangalore. She obtained her degree in Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) in St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.

Sr. Jacintha D’ Cunha has 33 years of teaching experience to her credit. She taught as a teacher in the following Schools:
1. Sacred Heart School, Lunglei, Mizoram,
2. Little Flower School, Serchhip, Mizoram
3. St. Peter’s High School, Chhingchhip, Mizoram
She worked as Headmistress in the Following Schools:
1. St. Mary’s School, Aizwal, Mizoram
2. Nazareth School, Pfutsero, Nagaland
3. St. Xavier’s School, Makhan , Manipur
At present she is the Principal of Holy Cross Higher Primary School, Lokhu in South Tripura since 2015.

Opening of Holy Cross Higher Primary School was an initiative of some village literate Youth of Lokhu village. Gradually this group was formed into a society known as Mukroi Society. Mr. Kanulal the founder of the school built tin sheet building in the year 2008. There are 4 structures of same kind and the fourth structure was built in the year 2014. Holy Cross Fathers of North East Province were taking care of the mission. The members of the Mukroi Society approached Holy Cross fathers and requested them to take over the school and to educate their children in English Medium. The Holy Cross Fathers in turn decided to offer this opportunity to Ursuline Franciscan Sisters. Hence on July 6th 2015 the school was named as Holy Cross Convent Higher Primary School and came under the administration of Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society, North East Province.

The data summarises the situation of the school indicate that there is gradual growth of the number and the value of education is slowly understood by the parents. At present there are 16 teaching staff, one non teaching staff and 347 students studying in the year 2018. Rev. Sr. Susheela Sequiera, Superior General Visited the School and Presided over the Parent’s Day Programme in March 2018. Along with her Sr. Lucy Lilly Pinto, Secretary of Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society was the chief Guest of the programme and also conducted Seminar to the teachers.

NOVEMBER 2023

Kid’s day was celebrated with lots of fun, energy and enthusiasm on 29th November 2024. It was a day to recognize the importance of our children and make their learning a fun. The event brought greater joy and happiness, a new way of learning and life long memories in the lives of little minds. Shri Asok kumar Sinha the Superintendent of Police, South Tripura. He emphasized the importance of education for children’s development. The day was packed with creative dances, fashion show and story telling.

Seminar on Motivational skills for students and teachers was conducted by Sr Helen Dantis from North Province on 3rd to 7th November 2023 on the theme “Motivational skill on Attitude and  thinking power”

SEPTEMBER 2023

Teachers day: Teachers day was celebrated by the students on 5th September 2023 to honour every teacher and pay their gratitude for all the sacrifices they render. A colourful programme and their sweet love added the beauty and made teachers feel proud. In gratitude special meal was arranged for all the teachers.

PTA meeting and Seminar: Parent teachers meet was held on 2nd and 4th of September 2023 for the classes Nursery to X.  Before the meeting Seminar on “Parenting Skills” was animated to all the Parents by Dr Nalini from Chennai which was appreciated by all Parents for the inspiring talk and awareness that created in the minds of parents about their children.

Independence Day: 15th August 2023 Independence Day was celebrated with great joy and peace. The program began by unfurling the National Flag by the Chief Guest Shri. ShashiBhushanMandi, the deputy branch head of Punjab National Bank, followed by march-past. To mark the event various competitions were conducted such as fancy dress on freedom fighters, patriotic dance and singing. The Chief Guest gave a soothing message for the students saying “Let us create peace and justice wherever we go by following the examples of our freedom fighters.”

JULY 2023

Investiture Day: Investiture ceremony was held on 26th July 2023 at Holy Cross School ground. The school captain and house representatives were honored with badges, sashes and by handing over the flags followed by march-past led by school pupil leader and house representatives. The Principal Rev. Sr. Augustine D’Souza congratulated and addressed them to be responsible leaders and work to build up team spirit among them.

Wealth out of Waste: On 1st of July 2023“Wealth out of waste’ competition was held for the students of Classes VI to X.  Many creative items were made from the waste like Eggshell, card board, coconut shell, waste papers, plastic bottles etc. It was an opportunity for the students to showcase their creative talents even from waste material which we normally discard. Every child from classes VI to X took active part to exhibit their talents.

FEBRUARY 2023

School inspection and Prize Distribution Day: The Inspection of the Holy Cross High School was held on 1st and 2nd February 2023 by the Provincial Superior Rev Sr Benny Fernandes and Rev. Sr Jessy D’Cunha the Co-ordinator of Education. Warm welcome was extended with a short cultural programme. They observed classroom teaching of the staff, met all the staff personally conducted staff meeting and guided the teachers the value of being a teacher. They met all the SMC members and meeting was arranged. Prizes were distributed to all the winners of various literary competitions and sports conducted during the year 2022-23.

25 years stands for grace upon grace. It’s time to celebrate the great milestone of the 25th Episcopal ordination of Rev Bishop Lumen Monteiro the Bishop of Agartala Diocese and the Erection of the Agartala diocese. It is a time for Jubilation, a time for celebration, a time for commemoration and a time for thanksgiving to God for all the blessings. On 2nd January 2021 Holy Cross High school, Lukhu celebrated this great event. The day was marked with the Holy Eucharist, felicitation programme, and fellowship meal. Rev Sr Mary CJ the Provincial Superior felicitated the jubilarian. Bishop Lumen Moneiro Exhorted the young generation to understand the struggles of the people that people underwent, to see the greater change today. The task was hard, challenges were great, but beautiful thing was never gave up. That’s why today we can see and enjoy the fruit from it. He encouraged them to keep focused in life. After every struggle there is greater joy and we reap the fruit from it. Never escape the challenges rather face it with courage and trust in God.

21-23.09.2018: TCSACAGM. Tripura Catholic school Association Annual Games Meet. It was held on 21st to 23rd September  2018. It was conducted  at Agartala Holy Cross School runned by the CSC fathers. Two gent teachers and one lady teacher and Sr Diana accompanied our students. Forty students participated.
