St Michael English Medium Higher Primary and High School

Shanthinagar is two kilometres away from Hubli Town. Once a deserted, lonely place now it is a fast-growing town. The Ursuline Franciscan Sisters ventured into this area in the year 1996 and concentrated on their socio-medico apostolate. Many families started settling in the vicinity of St Michael’s as land cost was comparatively lower there than in Hubli town. The growing population, creating prospects of opening a new English Medium school, which again came as a request from the locals who preferred their kids to be educated in good surroundings, amidst good people.

The Sisters sought permission from the Department of Education to open a pre-primary as well as primary school. On June 2, 2003 LKG, UKG and Class I commenced simultaneously with a total strength of 157 students. The multi-purpose hall came to the rescue to accommodate the students Sr. Chrisia Laura Pinto, an enthusiastic, energetic and lively person, was appointed headmistress who won the hearts of the kids as well as their parents within a short time of taking up her responsibility. She was succeeded by Sr. Serena D’Souza an experienced Sister who after her superannuation volunteered to serve the nascent School which she did from 2004 to 2013. The first batch of students, 35 in number, walked out of the school with a record of 100% result. In the Year 2013 Sr. Prameela D’Souza took the baton of Headmistress from the hands of Sr. Serena D’Souza and in the year 2014 she passed it on to Sr. Lucy D’Souza. The school has now 845 pupils from I Standard to Class X.

Hence the Sisters welcomed the idea and sought permission from the Department of Education to open a pre-primary as well as primary school. On June 2, 2003 LKG, UKG and Class I commenced simultaneously with a total strength of 157 students. The multi-purpose hall once again came to the rescue to accommodate the students as the College classes were shifted to the ground floor of the newly built college building and the first floor destined to be the Primary School was at the completion stage. In August the classes were shifted to the new building. Sr Chrisia Laura Pinto, an enthusiastic, energetic and lively person, was appointed headmistress who won the hearts of the kids as well as their parents within a short time of taking up her responsibility. She was succeeded by Sr Serena D’Souza an experienced Sister who after her superannuation volunteered to serve the nascent School which she did from 2004 to 2013. She was instrumental in getting permission for the higher primary section and high school. She laid down her office after much praiseworthy work of nine long years; her health was not good either. The first batch of students, 35 in number, walked out of the school with a record of 100% result.

As the hall was vacant after shifting the classrooms, a pre-nursery class was started there in 2005; the hall is utilized in the afternoon hours for activities related to social action. Sr Madtha D’Souza was in charge of the class; she managed the class of 28 children with assistance from a lay teacher. Currently, Sr Beatrice D’Silva along with a lay teacher and helper of the school is managing the class.

The school has now 780 pupils from pre-primary to Class X. Sr Prameela D’Souza is the headmistress in place of Sr Serena. This Ursuline Franciscan venture marches on for the love of God.

SEPTEMBER 2024

Hindi Diwas was celebrated in our school to show the importance of the Hindi language. Slogans were depicted to show the importance of Hindi in our day to day life.

 Pratibha Karanji is a platform that explores the talents of students in various fields.  This year our school had the privilege to host the program. It was held on 11th September, 2024. Shri Mahesh Tegginkai the MLA of Hubli-Dhrwad central constituency was the chief guest for the day. Many important personalities from the education department were present for the programme.

To honor educators and recognize the significant contribution in empowering and educating society, we celebrated teachers day on 5th September. A beautiful program was setup for the teachers by our students.

 

AUGUST 2024

Tricolor marks a pivotal moment in India’s journey towards establishing itself as independent nation free from British colonial rule. The Tricolor day was organized on 24th August 2024 in our school. Students of class 3rd participated in the program.

On 19th of August an activity on the theme “FRATERNITY” was celebrated by the English club students. The day also marked Raksha Bandhan. The students of the club beautifully showcased the love and care between the siblings through a dance to show the important of brotherhood.

15th August marks the Independence of our beloved country India. The event was celebrated with great pomp and show in our school. The chief guest for the day was Mrs. Effie Pinto, A retired teacher of NLE Rotary School, Deshpande Nagar. The cultural programs added sparkle to the event making it a great success.

Umbrella day was celebrated in our school on 7th August 2024. The students of class 1st took active participation in the celebration. The best decorated Umbrellas were judged by the judges.

JULY 2024

The theme “FRATERNITY “was beautifully depicted by the Science club students on 31^st  2024 to show the brotherhood and unity of different states of our country, the students dressed in the attire of the states. The preparation of rice in different forms by different states were depicted to show universal brotherhood.

Water day was celebrated on 27^th of July in our school to create awareness about the use of water in our lives. The program was organized by the students of 2nd std.  The same class students participated in the speech competition on the theme “WATER”.

Parent’s Teacher Meetings were held on 25th of July. The resource person for the day Rev. Sr.Dulceen Crasta mainly focused on POCSO Act and on bringing up a complete human being to serve the society.

On 20^th & 22^nd of July Rev. Sr. Dimple D’Souza, the Coordinator of AEP at the Congregational level was present to observe the sessions of the guides and also to train the New Guides. We acknowledge the guidance and encouragement by her to the staff members.

Vanamahotsa the festival of Trees was celebrated in our school on 11th of July. Rev.Sr.Jacintha Sequiera, the Deputy Secretary of Hubli Province was the Chief Guest. The importance of trees in our lives was beautifully depicted by students through a skit, dance and action song.

The Investiture Ceremony was held on 6th July 2024. The headmistress Sr.Milagrin handed over the school flag to the newly elected SPL Master Zaki. Later the elected leaders took oath and badges were pinned by the Headmistress Sr.Milagrin and correspondent of the School Sr.Lolita Monis.

JUNE 2024

   The theme for this academic year 2024-2025 “FRATERNITY” was unveiled on 29th June 2024 by the headmistress Sr. Milagrin and the school Rev. Sr.Fatima Dias. A skit on “FRATERNITY ” was beautifully presented by the students of Sports club which brought forth the  importance of brotherhood among the students.

Clubs are the instruments through which one can find their hidden talents”. The inauguration of the various clubs of the school for the academic year 2024-2025 was held on 25th of June.

Yoga Day was celebrated in our school on 21st of June. Physical Education instructor guided the students to perform the various asanas in our school auditorium.

Dr. Sr. Gretta Sanjivini D’Souza, the Provincial Superior of the Hubli Province officially visited the school on 20th June 2024.  Her visit brought joy to our school. She in her speech emphasized more on the power of positivity.

On 16th we celebrated the Domestic workers day to recognize the service rendered by our Non-Teaching staff.

World Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June in school to create awareness and action to protect the environment. An informative skit was enacted by the students to create importance about the environment. Students also delivered speech in English and Hindi on the importance of environment.

The road to freedom here and everywhere on earth begins in the classroom.” Programme was put up to inaugurate the new academic year on 3rd of June 2024.  Teachers show cased their excitement to begin this educational journey with great enthusiasm through their dance.

One day’s orientation was held for teachers under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Pius. He mainly focused on the role of a teacher in the classroom.

FEBRUARY 2024

It was on 24^th of February we bid adieu to the Student of class Xth. Wishing the children the very best for their journey ahead in life, The Headmistress urged them never to compromise with the values ingrained in them by their alma mater. The students of class X also took to the podium sharing some of their fond memories and unforgettable experiences of school life and extended their heartfelt gratitude and love to their revered management, Headmistress and the beloved teachers who have all nurtured them with utmost love and care.

To exhibit the culinary skills create awareness about the nutritional values of food cooked without fire. To understand the importance of good hygiene and to bring out the creative ideas, fireless cooking competition was conducted on 13th February. Children participated with full of zeal and enthusiasm as they prepared nutritious yet delectable delicacies.

JANUARY 2024

  Our school celebrated India’s 75th Republic Day with great éclat. The students took pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of unity. They brought the stage alive with their passion and love of the motherland through their speech and dance performance.

Science exhibition was held to create a scientific temperament among the students. The exhibition witnessed great enthusiasm and blooming participation of diverse classes who had the unique opportunity of exploring as well as expressing their creative scientific ideas in the form of activities, models and projects.

DECEMBER 2023

The school annual day celebration was on 21^st of Dec 2023. The programme was an amalgamation of various hues benefiting the theme “Incredible India” wondrously. The theme-based dances of various states captivated the guests. The thematic show of talent, imagination, and organization was the essence of the evening. The most riveting performance which drew unceasing applause was the “The Tableau” on the birth of Jesus an astounding visual treat enthralled every spectator.

 An initiative was taken to bring forth the innate skills and talent of our students and hone their creative genius. The art exhibition was an excitement and fervor as it showcased the handicrafts of our students in their myriad hues.

Social outreach program for students were organized. Children were given an opportunity to visit & interact the elderly at destitute home run by sisters of Mother Theresa, Keshwapur, Hubli and differently able children at Manovikas School. The students entertained them with dance, and distributed gifts and eatables and spent an hour interacting with them.

NOVEMBER 2023

Indian Constitution Day was observed on 26.11.2023. Ms. Janet briefly explained the importance and the responsibility of each citizen towards their nation.

Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven.” Children’s day was celebrated with great pomp in the premises of St. Michael’s School. The Headmistress addressed the students; prizes were given to the winners of various games conducted class wise.

The victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance was celebrated in our school on 13^th of November.

On 1^st of November the Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated. The Chief Guest Sir Chandrashekar Kyalkond spoke about the significance of the day.

OCTOBER 2023

The birth anniversary of the man who turned the wheels of fortune, Mahatma Gandhiji the “Father of the nation” was celebrated on 2^nd of October.

SEPTEMBER 2023

Eid Milad: 27th of September Eid-E-Milad Nabi was celebrated to reminds about the kindness, compassion and teachings of Prophet Mohammed whose birthday has commemorated the same day.

Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotion”. On the 26th of September Gratitude Day was celebrated to bring about the importance of expressing gratitude towards the each other.

on 23^rd September debate on India’s status as a democracy has brought about more awareness about democracy as well as built up confidence in students.

Khari Kamai a concept of not only teaching children that every job is valuable but also how they can cultivate the values through acts of  kindness was conducted on the 16th of September.

Hindi Diwas:  Hindi diwas was celebrated on 14th September it is a day that holds great significance in promoting the Hindi language nationwide and to emphasize the importance of Hindi language.

Seminar for Teachers: Teachers Seminar was conducted on 14^th of September to enables the teachers for broader visualization and to understand the psychological behavior of different students.

Domestic Workers Day:  On 4^th of September Domestic Workers Day was celebrated to acknowledge & appreciate the hard work & service rendered by the non-teaching staff.

AUGUST 2023

Democracy: The Art & Literary Club presented the Activity on the theme “Democracy” The club members depicted a skit on Democracyin a classroom setup vto give basic knowledge of democratic way of selecting a leader.

Peace March: On 7^th of August Peaceful March was organized by the Christians community demanding restoration of peace in the state of Manipur. The staff of our school participated in the peace march and offered special prayers.

JULY 2023

On 28th of July to celebrate the monsoons showers we celebrated the Rainy Day. The students of 2^nd std. had speech competitions in a very creative way. Rainy Day’ celebration was full of fun and frolic.

On 26^th of July to commemorate the sacrifices of our brave hearts, Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with the intention of fostering the spirit of unity and patriotism.

On 22nd of July to make students aware of the importance of water and its significance in our lives water day program was organized.  Some exciting, informative posters and dance related to water conservation were performed.

On 15th of July Umbrella Day was celebrated in the school to know the importance of umbrella during rainy season, the students swayed and danced to the songs with their umbrellas.

On 6^th of July Vanmahothsav was celebrated by planting the saplings in the school premises which added beauty to the school campus.

 

 

On1st July 2023 the school held the Investiture ceremony. It was the momentous day dawned to bestow responsibilities on the budding young talents of the school to lead the school from the front with their commitment, confidence and competence.The headmistress congratulated the newly Elected SPL Muskhan & ASPL Sarah Steven and the newly appointed School Cabinet Members.

JUNE 2023

 

INAUGURATION OF PROJECT DEMOCRACY & SCHOOL ELECTION: “Electoral literacy is for stronger democracy”. This was very well executed by the English Club members on 28^TH of June. The school election was organized in a perfect democratic manner by a secret ballot.

On 23^{rd of} June 2023 The inauguration of various clubs of the school for the academic year 2023-24 were held in a unique way. The various clubs are Eco Club, Sports club, Human Rights club, Inter religious club, English club, Kannada  club , Hindi Club, Science club, Art &Literature Club as per the disposition of the child.

The 21st of June: Yoga Day was celebrated to maintain the harmony between body and mind. The event ended with a pledge to make yoga a daily part of our lives so as to increase our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.

On the 5th of June the world environment day was celebrated in the school auditorium Mr. Yesuratnam Krishnapur as the chief guest of the day, who motivated the children to plant more and more trees to make our mother earth full of greenery.

The same day we had the Inauguration of the new academic year and also felicitation to the meritorious students of the SSLC 2022-23.

 

On 3^rd of June thought provoking Orientation for the new Academic year began with an intensive and session to the staff members by the resource person Rev. Fr. Richard D’Almeda SVD.

MAY 2023

On 29th of May students were warmly welcomed by the teachers with a smile as they entered the portal of the school. The teachers performed a beautiful dance to bring out the excitement in the students to start a new year of studies, fun filled activities and adventures.

Valedictory Function: On 25^th of March we bid farewell to our SSLC students and wished them all success for their future.

JANUARY 2023

Parent Teachers Meet: On 28^th of January 2023 the parent teacher meeting was held. Sr. Lilly Pushpa the resource person of the day gave the input session on ‘the important role of the parents in the holistic growth & development of their children’.Sr. Jacinta Sequira the Coordinator for Education of Hubli Province addressed gathering.

Republic day celebration: The 74^th Republic day was celebrated with great pomp and splendor. Sir. Manjunath M Patroti the service man of Indian Army was the Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag and gave a beautiful message. A colorful field activity presented by the students were praise worthy. The heads of the institutions, parents and the whole staff and students were present. It was a great event to cherish.

Seminar- NEP:  “If you are not updated then you are outdated”. Thus the management of St.Michael’s School Shanthinagar organized a seminar on NEP to the staff members. Mr. Vinayak Ravi the Teacher Trainer from Gadag was the resource person.  The session was very informative and impressive. This was the need of the time. He simplified the topic and made it very interesting through the presentation. Many of our doubts and quarries were clarified by him. We are grateful to him for spending and sharing his valuable time and knowledge with us.

Star gazing Session:  St.Michael School always takes a step forward to encourage the students to involve and explore new things that would lead to their cognitive development. To infuse scientific temperament and trigger the knowledge of space and Astronomy on 16^th of January the students had a thrilling experience of star gazing session by Himalayan Space Centre, Hubli.

Seminar – SSLC:  On 14^th January a seminar was organized to the students of class 10^th on carrier guidance.  Prof. Suman Kumar was the resource person of the day. He inspired, guided, enlightened and motivated the students to make a right decision to plan their future studies based on their interest.

DECEMBER 2022

Social Outreach Programme:  “When joy is shared it is doubled, when sorrow is shared it is halved”.  Sr.Jenny D’Sa, Staff and the students of our school visited the Sub-Jail, Hubli on 22^nd of December to share the joy of Christmas with the prisoners. They performed cultural activities like carol singing, skit and dances to bring smile on their faces. We offered a meal to all the prisoners.

Christmas Celebration: Christmas is a festival of Joy, Loving, sharing as it is the Birth of Jesus the son of God. On 22^nd December, we celebrated Christmas with full of grandeur and enthusiasm. Rev.Sr.Gretta Sanjivini D’Souza the Provincial Superior of Hubli Province was the Chief Guest. Students put up a beautiful cultural programme to mark this occasion. Through their activities they spread the message of Jesus. On this special occasion the Chief Guest congratulated and honored the students for their remarkable achievements at the District and National level. The Chief Guest in her address to the audience called upon to cultivate and imbibe the principles and values of Jesus in our lives.

Loving Tribute:  On 10^th December a parting homage was paid with candles and heavy hearts at our school premises to our dear Sr.Sereena D’Souza the former Headmistress of this school who passed away this morning. The Staff and Students remain indebted for inspiring many by her qualities of hard work, promptness and discipline.

School Picnic: December is the month of celebrations. The students were taken for the school picnic to the various Resorts like Kiskinda Water Park, PRS Water Park and  Adventure Park. It was educative as well as entertainment to the students. It was a relaxing as well as fun filled day to all.

 

NOVEMBER 2022

The Constitution Day: Constitution Day was celebrated on 26^th November. The students were given a chance to express their views on the importance Constitution. The Headmistress emphasized the significance of Indian Constitution which preserves the National integrity of our country. Poorva Habib the School Pupil Leader administered the pledge by reciting the Preamble of the Constitution.

Children’s Day:  On 14^th November Children’s Day was celebrated in the school. Prayer service was conducted by the staff. They performed various activities and exciting entertainment for the students. On this occasion competitions were conducted and the winners were awarded with the prizes.

Visit – President of UFES:  We were privileged to welcome Rev.Sr. Milly Fernandes the President of the Ursuline Franciscan Education Society Mangalore and Sr. Lidia Serrao the Councilor General. They were warmly welcomed by the Headmistress, the staff and the students with a beautiful cultural programme. She conducted the meeting to the staff of the school and expressed gratitude for their dedicated service to this Institute. She also met the Ursuline Franciscan Blooms and the students of std.10^th and wished them good luck.

Kanakadasa  Jayanthi: On 11^th November Kanakadasa Jayanthi was celebrated. The Headmistress elucidated about Kanakadasa a teacher, a poet and a philosopher and his contribution to spread kannada literature and culture.

Kannada  Rajyotsava : Kannada Rajyothsava was celebrated in a grand scale. Students of different classes put up colorful programme. Mr. Irappa Bhandari  the Chief Guest of the day gave an inspiring message asking the student to respect the Kannada language and culture. The program concluded with a state anthem.

OCTOBER 2022

 

Elevation of High voltage wire: The long awaited dream has been fulfilled. The hard work of Sr.Beatrice D’Silva and the Headmistress is rewarded. The high voltage wire passing at the low level through our campus. It was risky and dangerous for the students.  The wire has been elevated. This is done by the constant reminder to the KEB officers and the concerned persons.

 Adolescent Empowerment program: The Adolescent Empowerment Programme (AEP) was implemented in our school.  The aim of this programme is to empower the adolescents and to develop self confidence in them. On 29th October the parents of the students were given the seminar to motivate them concerning AEP.  Sr. Anita D’Souza the Vice Provincial Superior was the resource person of the day. She briefed and guided the parents about the purpose of AEP to bring about change in their behavior & attitude by instilling values.

Inauguration and Blessing of the New School Hall: The New School Hall is inaugurated by Rev.Sr.Juliana Pinto Councilor General on 22^nd October.  Fr Alwyn Sudir the parish priest of Infant Jesus Church, blessed the hall. On this occasion we conducted prayer service. Sr. Gretta Sanjivini Dsouza the Provincial Superior of Hubli Province, We honored Mr.Jerald the Engineer for his tireless service in constructing the beautiful hall.

KotiKanta Gayana: The Education Department issued an order to the schools to sing Kannada songs in connection with koti kanta gayana. The purpose of the programme is to preserve the Kannada culture. Our teachers and students took part in this programme to make successful.

Science Exhibition: The students of Science club organized the Science Exhibition on 31^st October. They prepared science models related to different branches of science; Physics, space science, molecular models, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science. The models vividly revealed the scientific temperament and the zeal of the students.

Ethnic Day : October 31^st the celebration of Ethnic Day in our school. We owe our respect and honor to all religions and regions equally. Unity in diversity is the theme of the day. The staff of the school attired themselves in the state wise costume to reflect the uniqueness and unique story of our country. It is our duty to show tolerance and patience to all the languages and cultures of our country.

Gandhi Jayanthi : We commemorated the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi the Father of our Nation. A number of students from different classes enacted and dressed like little Gandhi. It was a beautiful sight and feast to the eyes. We also paid our homage by garlanding the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. There were various cultural activities performed by the students like singing the bhajan, speeches and readings from the Holy Books of different religions.  The Headmistress addressed the students and encouraged them to imbibe the spirit of the great leaders. She also motivated them to walk in the path of Mahathma the values like “Truth, Peace and Non-Voilance”.

 SEPTEMBER 2022

Feast of St Michael the Archangel: On 29^th September we celebrated the Feast of St Michael the Archangel the patron saint of our school. In preparation for the feast we conducted the novena for 9 days by the students. On the Feast Day we had a meaningful prayer service.

Competitions: On 15^th to 19^th of September the school conducted various activities with the theme ‘secularism’, to develop the respect for every religion and also to strengthen the classroom learning.

Teachers Day: A day of joy and celebration for the students and the teachers.  Teachers Day was celebrated in the school with lots of vigor and enthusiasm. Students welcomed the teachers with flowers and bouquets. A good number of colorful activities were performed by the students to express their love & joy. The Headmistress recognized the service of the teachers by presenting the gifts as a token of love. The Headmistress expressed gratitude to the dedicated service of the teachers. She highlighted the values of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in imparting the discipline and forming the character of the students.

AUGUST 2022

SWACHH VIDYALAYA PURASKAR 2021-2022: We congratulate the Headmistress, staff and the students for keeping the school campus clean and hygienic. It was noted and recognized by the District Collector of Hubli / Dharwad. The school is awarded as SWACHH VIDYALAYA PURASKAR 2021-22 at the District Level, with a five star rating.

Cluster level sports meet: The cluster level sports meet was organized in our school. The students of different schools under that particular cluster participated in various games according to the categories. The winners were presented the certificates and medals by the hosts of sports meet.

Independence Day:  We celebrated the 75^th Independence Day (Amruth Mahotsav) on August 15^th. We invited Maj. Deepak Kolekar the Chief Guest hoisted the Flag. The students exhibited their talents through dance, skit, speech and songs.  In commemoration of the 75^th Independence the education department instructed us to hoist National Flag for 3 days. This enhanced the patriotisms in our students.

Visit — Secretary of UFES:  We were privileged to welcome Rev.Sr.Philomena Noranha the Secretary of the Ursuline Franciscan Education Society Mangalore. We felicitated her on behalf of the Headmistress, staff and the students. Our students performed a beautiful cultural programme to mark this occasion. She conducted the staff meeting and briefed us regarding the rules of the Ursuline Franciscan Education Society. She guided, inspired and motivated the teacher’s regarding the teaching profession.

JULY 2022

 Vana Mahostva: Plant the saplings; grow the forest, save the Earth”. We celebrated Vanamahotsava Day in our school on the 6th July. Sr. Reena D’souza, the Correspondent of our school was the Chief Guest. On this occasion the students of Eco- club organized beautiful programme. The Chief Guest spoke about the importance of the forest and how to preserve it.

Investiture Ceremony: The Elected body of the school parliament and the ministers marched solemnly towards the dais. Rev. Sr. Jacinta Sequeira the Coordinator for Education of Hubli Province was the Chief Guest. The Headmistress administered the oath of office to the newly elected S.P.L. & A.S.P.L. The in charge teachers of different houses presented badges & sash to their respective House Captains.

JUNE 2022

Celebration of Secularism:  The Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society Mangalore has set a theme for the academic year 2022-23 “Secularism”. We celebrated this occasion in our Institute. The main aim of this theme is to bring about peace and harmony among the religions, cultures in the society. Based on this topic the students inspired the audience through skit and dance. The students dressed themselves to depict the culture and costumes of 24 states of India.  The Headmistress addressed the gathering bringing out the values prevailing in the Constitution. Ours is a secular Nation, we are grateful to Dr. B.R Ambedkar the Father of the constitution of India for his contribution to build our country as a Secular Nation.

Orientation Programme: The school organized a seminar on the POCSO Act and the child rights.  Sr Dulcine Crasta the Director at Resource and Development Centre on Child Rights, Mangalore, was the resource person. She guided and enlightened the staff how to protect the children from the offences like sexual assault & sexual harassment.  The seminar was very much inspiring and educative. We thanked the resource person Sr Dulcine Crasta for spending her valuable time and excellent suggestions to us.

Yoga Day: We celebrated ‘International Yoga Day’ in our school. We were honored to have  Mrs. Shilpa kulkarni as the Chief Guest. She, who is trained under a reputed yoga center, shared her a few views on the importance of yoga. The students performed a number of yogasanas. We all took a pledge to spend sometimes to do yoga and to stay fit.

Environment Day:  We celebrated the world environment day on 5^th June 2022.  Rev. Sr. Gretta Sanjivini D’Souza, the Provincial Superior of Hubli Province was the Chief Guest.  Students performed various activities like songs, speeches and dances to highlight the importance of environment. On this occasion we welcomed and honored Rev. Sr. Gretta Sanjivini D’Souza. She in her speech called upon the students to protect the environment by growing more trees. We offered saplings to all the dignitaries, teachers and the students.

MAY 2022

Inauguration of the New Academic Year 2022-23: We began our academic year on May 15^th 2022. We extended a warm welcome to the teachers and the students with the Inaugural prayer service. Sr. Milagrin Horta the headmistress, representative of a staff, a non-teaching staff and a student lighted the lamp to mark the event. The passages from the Holy Scriptures namely the Holy Bible, the Bhagavat Geeta & the Holy Quran were read to inspire us for the whole academic year. The staff and the students of St.Michael’s School Shanthinagar, offered a warm welcome to the new headmistress Sr. Milagrin Horta with a symbol of bouquet. She addressed the staff and the students, and expressed her sincere thanks and wished them God’s blessings for this academic year.

1/11/2019:  KARNATAKA RAJYOTSAVA: – Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated on 1st Nov 2019. The program was conducted in kannada. Students spoke few words on poets and writers of Karnataka.

13/11/2019:  FOOD FEAST: – Food Feast was conducted on the occasion of children’s day by the staff members. All the students have contributed towards this cause which the school will be contributing every year for Nympha Nidhi for the girl child education.  The children learn to be generous.

14/11/2019:  CHILDREN’S DAY: – Children’s day started with lightening of the lamp. A Prayer song was sung by the staff members. Teachers took part in this celebration and gifts were distributed to the students who won prizes in various competitions conducted for children’s day.

23/11/2019:  MATHS TALENT EXAM: – Maths Talent Exam was conducted for different classes by teachers by Karnataka Academy of Mathematics Challakeri.  Students learn to take part in this competition with great interest.

26/11/2019: CONSTITUTION DAY: – Constitution day was celebrated in order to bring out the importance of the constitution. Slogans and Charts were displayed to the students. Preamble of the Constitution was read the students to understand the constitution better.  Children understood their rights as the citizen of India.

OCTOBER 2019

2/10/2019:- Gandhi Jayanti: – The program started with a prayer service followed by lighting of the lamp. The students spoke a few words on Gandhi Jayanti elaborating the life on freedom struggle. Patriotic dance and singing was performed in order to give tribute to the freedom fighter. The students imbibed the values of Mahatma Gandhi.

23/10/2019:- Orientation Program: – Orientation Program was conducted for students of 8^th, 9^th, 10^th. The resource person was Rev.Fr Maxim Misquith. The session included with a lot of activities. Along with education he motivated the children to be spiritual and live a life of noble ideas.

SEPTEMBER 2019

5/9/2019- Teachers Day: – Teacher day program was well organized and took good start with a welcome dance. Speeches were given by the students marking the importances of teacher’s day. Student’s organized value based programs on this day. Students took lead and responsibility on this occasion.

6/9/2019- Field Trip:– Field trip was arranged for IX and VIII std students to “ Plastic Recycling Unit ”at Belur Industrial Area, Belgavi Road.  The purpose behind the trip was to educate students what kind of disaster plastic can create to the environment and how it affects all types of eco system. Students realized to avoid all types of pollution. They learnt to “REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE”.

14/9/2019 –Hindi Divas: – Hindi divas was organized to give tribute to the national language. Various programs were conducted to give importances of the national languages. Students learnt to respect the national languages.

14/9/2019 – Rally for Right to Vote:-  Rally was taken by High school students to spread out the awareness about the right to vote and claiming of voter id to the public. Students learnt about their rights and choose their leader.

15/9/2019 – Installation of Aquarium:-  Installation of Aquarium to create artificial eco system in the school premises by the science club. Artificial eco system made us realize that life is beautiful and we should live it to the fullest.

18/9/2019:- Pratibha Karanji (Taluk Level) :- High school students participated in Pratibha karanji at taluk level, Unkal School. Students bagged third price in the competition.

21/9/2019 – Taluk Level Sports: – Students participated at taluk level sports meet in athletic at Nehru Stadium, Hubli and were qualified for district Level. Students brought out their spotting spirit.

21- 28/9/2019 – Basic Counseling Training: – Basic Counseling training was conducted at Generalate ‘Somarpann’ Derlakatte, Mangalore Rev. Sr Carmilita Monteiro UFS was the resources person for this training. Teachers were spiritually, mentally and physically benefited from this training.

23/9/2019 – Orientation Program for Parents:- Orientation Program was conducted for all the parents. Rev.Fr Vincent Pereira was the resource person for this program. Parent learned to take up the responsibility of their children, to grow physically, mentally and spiritually, in the present world with values and virtues.

27/9/2019 – Feast of St. Michael:- The Program started with a prayer service followed by lighting of the lamp and honoring the statue of St. Michael with a beautiful garland. The life of our patron Saint  was enacted in order to signify the importances of our patron. Students were inspired by these values to practice in their day today life.

AUGUST 2019

2^nd AUGUST:    DEPARTMENTAL SPORTS:- Departmental group games were conducted on 2/8/19 in St Michael’s School campus. Our school children participated and won first prize in volley and throw ball. Students learnt to face the different challenges from the sports field.

15^th AUGUST:  INDEPENDENCE DAY:- The program commenced with a prayer and children prayed for the nation and flood victims.  By this students learnt to respect, serve and stand for the nation.

15^th AUGUST: – VISIT TO SUB JAIL:- On the account of 73^rd Independence Day a small program was organized in sub jail. Along with our principal Sr Lucy D’souza, Fr Allwyn (parish priest of Infant Jesus church ) Sr Jenny, other sisters, teachers and students with the permission of sub inspector Mr. Ashok Bhojantri.
Program was commenced with a prayer dance and Fr Allwyn addressed the gathering and insisted prisoners to lead a worthy life and join the families as soon as possible by changing their characters.

21^st  AUGUST: INSPECTION FROM DEPUTY SECRETARY:- Sr Jacintha Sequeira, Deputy Secretary of Hubli province had inspection for 3 days in our school. Our Principal, teachers and students welcomed the Deputy Secretary.

23^rd AUGUST: – YOUVA NAVNEET DRAWING COMPETITION:-  Youva Navneet competition was conducted in our school campus. Students participated with enthusiasm, learnt creativity and played with colors.

25^th AUGUST: –   FOOD FEAST:- Food Feast was conducted in our school along with our principal, staff and students in order to collect fund for flood victims and natural calamities. Students enjoyed and generously contributed towards this program.

27^th AUGUST: – ANTHE COMPETITION:-  Akash National Talent Hunt Exam was conducted in our school campus.  Students participated from different classes.

28^th AUGUST: – PRATIBHA KARANJI:-  Pratibha karanji competition was held on 28/8/19 for primary and high school at Bhagini Mandal School, Navanagar. Nearly 100 students participated and many prizes in various competitions. Students were encouraged to participate in all the activities.

29^th AUGUST: – DEPARTMENTAL SPORTS:-  Departmental sports were conducted for primary students at Taluk Level in Rotary school, Navanagar. 40 students from our school participated and won prizes for the same.

JULY 2019

JULY -2^nd – CELEBRATION OF VANAMAHOSTAVA:-  The celebration of vanamahostava was conducted on 2^nd July, the program began with a prayer song. By this programme children were aware to grow more green around them & maintain the ecological balance.

JULY- 4^th – FORMATION OF SCHOOL CABINET: –   On July 4^th School Cabinet was formed.  The programme was commenced at 1:30 with a prayer service. Cabinet members took oath. Leaders learnt to take the responsibilities & do their duty up to the mark.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: –   Various competitions were held up class wise – such as dance, essay writing, singing, and speech competitions. Theme given was “ SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT TO SAVE THE WORLD”. Students learnt to participate  & explore their talents.

PARENTS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION: –   Parents teachers association meetings was conducted effectively in the presences of our Headmistress Rev. Sr Lucy D’ Souza.Meetings were divided according to standards & classes. Good response was given by the parents for over all development of the school.

JULY -13^th:- Inter-School Drawing Competition: – Bhavadeepa Shikshana Samsthis organized Inter-School “Ravi Varma” drawing competition in Bhavani Nagar Hubballi, on July 13^th 2019. Our school children participated & got the certificates. Students learnt to competent with the other school students.

JULY- 26^th – DEPARTMENT SPORTS: – Department Sports was conducted for Higher Primary Students at the cluster level in Nehru Ground. Our school children participated & won the prizes.  Students were mentally alert and physically fit.

UFB INAUGRATION – JULY 18^th :-UFB Inauguration was formed on July 18, with the Eucharist celebration. Students came together as one family to promote faith formation to develop personal relationship with god.

JUNE 2019

01.06.2019: School Re-opening Day:  All the teaching staff took the initiative in welcoming the students for the academic year 2019-20. The Theme for the year, “SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT TO THE SAVE WORLD”   was unveiled.

06.06.2019: Ramzan Celebration: On the occasion of Ramzan Celebration children dressed in traditional dress, performed and recited the verses from Quran and importance of Ramzan, Ayatul Kursi and meaning is recited.

08.06.2019: World Environment Day:  In dedication for this day children took a sportive part in spreading the message to the public to protect our environment.

12.06.2019: Cancer Awareness Campaign: Cure Cancer Awareness Campaign (CCAC) supported by Lion Club of Bangalore, Organised awareness program to our Staff and the children.

20.06.2019: World Children’s Right Day: Children should be cared and protected instead of being the victims of violence, trafficking and abuse. Different completions were conducted in creating awareness among the children about their right.

21.06.2019: Yoga Day: “In a healthy body dwells a healthy mind”.  Under the guidance PT teachers, our students celebrated the International Yoga Day by performing various Yoga asanas.

22.06.2019: Parents Teachers Meet: Parent Teacher meeting was held on 22 June 2019, for the class 9 and10. Most of the parents were present. Many important objectives were discussed for the growth of students in all the areas of life.

MAY 2019

27.05.2019: Teachers Orientation Programme: Teachers Orientation Programme was conducted on 27 May 2019 . The total staff present for the programme was 60+ in number. The resource person was Rev Fr Vincent Pereira.

OCTOBER 2018

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated on 2^nd October 2018. Unity in Diversity was followed by having a prayer service in all religion. Readings were taken from the Quran, Bhagwadgeta and Bible. After the programme all students along with the HM and teachers actively participated in cleaning the school premises.
Basic Cancelling Training for teachers was conducted in St. Michael convent dated from 08/10/2018 to 14/10/2018 Rev. Sr. Carmelita from Mangalore was the resource person. The following teachers attend a week’s training.
Valmiki Jayanti was celebrated on 24/10/2018.  Children assembled at 8.30am . we had a small celebration. Avani Joshi 9^th std student gave a speech on like of valmiki all the students listened attentively. The programme was concluded by advice to the students.

29/09/2018- Feast of St Michael
We celebrated our school feast with a meaningful prayer service and students were addressed by the teachers and Headmistress about the importance of feast.

 21/09/2018- Rangoli / Photo frame competition
Primary section had this event with creativity. Students exhibited their talent in art by using the waste materials and awareness created in students to protect nature, to reuse and recycle.

 20/09/2018-  Noveena of St Michael
We started our noveena to St Micahel the patron saint of our school. Students along with the teachers had prayer service.

19/09/2018- orientation programme for Catholic students
The catholic students of our school had a small motivational session by Rev. Fr. Richard S.J. Students were helped to learn more about oneself and God. Our role as catholic in the present society were the topics. UFB members took responsibilities to conduct this program. 26 students from 4^th to 10th took part.

18/09/2018- Vegetable Carving
Students of I std A and B sections had vegetable carving competition. It was very creative.

15/09/2018- UFB Meet
UFB members along with Animator and teacher visited the house for the destitutes run by Mother Theresa sisters at Shanthinagar, Hubli. Students conducted a small program and prayed for all the inmates. Members contributed rice bags as a gift to them. It was appreciated by the sisters and the inmates. Students learnt that there is joy in sharing.

14/09/2018- Orientation program by Fr Prashant
‘Goal in life’ was the theme of  the orientation program for the students of 4^th to 10^th by Rev Fr Prashanth D’Souza S.J. There were 2 batches with 2 sessions. Students enjoyed the sessions which had some activities and sharing of innovative ideas. There was opportunity for students to share their opinion and ideas.

05/09/2018- Teacher’s day
Teacher’s Day celebration was conducted with a prayer service and other cultural activities by the students with the help of incharge teachers. It was good day where Students expressed their love and respect towards the teachers.

31/08/2018- National Anthem Competition
There was class wise from 1-10 std national anthem competition to help students to  know the importance of our nation and to sing correctly with proper pronunciation. The classes were divided in to four groups and students exhibited their talent in singing National anthem and won prizes for their performance.

 30/08/2018- Cabinet meeting
The student leaders conducted meeting with help of in-charge teachers. Students were helped through this to know their strength and weaknesses. Various suggestions and appreciations made them to do their responsibilities well for the betterment and growth of our school.

27/08/2018- Work shop on subjects
The educational department organized a workshop on Kannada  language and social studies subject. The concerned teachers attended the program which helped them to find right method of teaching the particular lessons.

25/08/2018- things for recycling
Students of 8^th to 10^th went around to collect wastes to be given in recycling unit. It was appreciated by the people of our locality.

24/08/2018- Work Shop for teachers
Teach the teachers – Work shop was attened by 8 teachers at  vidyaniketan , Dharwad organised by Jesuit priests for all teachers. The sessions were focused on new methods of learning and mentoring the students.

18/08/2018- Mentrual Hygiene education
Health awareness programme by Saksham foundation for the girls of 7^th to 10^th std about menstrual Hygiene helped the students to take care of their health.

17/08/2018- Awarding ceremony
Vijayalakshmi From 9^th std was appreciated and awarded for the great achievement in Karate. She stood first in karate at National level. The Head mistress and the staff appreciated her for all her effort

15/08/2018- Independence day
We celebrated independence day with prayer service, flag hoisting, marchfast, cultural programmes ,speeches by students and other drill. Sr. Severine Veigas  the provincial Superior of Hubli Province was the chief guest and addressed the gathering with her beautiful speech .The students who achieved  prizes in sports  were honored by sr Severine Veigas .

11/08/2018- Indian Constitution
There was a seminar for all teachers about the constitution our Nation. Rev. Fr. Jerald D’souza was the resource person and helped us to gain knowledge on the topic. The sessions were so informative. Sr. Lucy D’souza insisted teachers to share this knowledge with their students as there will be seminar for students too.

10/08/20185 UFB Meeting
The UFB meeting was held the topic was ‘Gift of life’ students were helped to understand the topic with a small demonstration. Students were able to share their view on this topic. They decided to visit the orphanage and to help them with their things.

Students were awarded with medals, shields and certificates as the lion’s club recognized the charitable work of children who helped  the victims of cancer through the financial support.

Singing Competition was organized in our school by Sr Kavitha inviting the Judges from outside. Students from V to X std took part in solo and group song competition. The winners were awarded with certificates and with cash prize respectively.

Teachers Neha and Swathi attended one day workshop on activity based teaching and learning kannada organized by New Saraswati Pvt.Ltd in Hubli.

22 to 24 July 2018
Students of High school were accompanied by the teachers incharge for scouts and guides camp organized by the Department. Students were awarded with the certificates for the participation.

FA-1 exams – Achievement tests were conducted in a systematic and disciplined manner to help students to improve their performance in their academic studies.

Nature has to be nurtured. We were happy to celebrate Vanamahostsva in our campus. The programme began with the beautiful on nature speech by students. Each class was distributed with saplings. Class took the responsibility of planting the plant and to take care of it every day. The class teachers along with their students planted various plants. On this occasion the students contributed dust bins and collected E-waste, plastic waste and paper waste to send it to recycling unit.

15 July 2018
It was a great moment to have Sr Lilly Pinto the Secretary of UFES who spent three days to hold an inspection of our school. We welcomed Sr Lilly pinto with prayer service and welcome dance by students. Sr Margarate the deputy secretary of education was present along with Sr Lilly pinto to help in the processes of inspection. It was a learning experience for us as she went through the records and registers of school and observed the lessons of teachers. Sister guided us and appreciated for the work done. The staff meeting on the final day helped us to deal with the situations and to be more committed in our profession of teaching.

22/06/2018- Workshop for teachers
Two of our teachers attended the workshop based on teaching and learning by doing at KLE’s school, Hubli organized by Rotary Club which helped them to be creative in their teaching.

21/06/2018- Children’s Right Day
The rights of children were beautifully presented by class VII as they took part in speech competition bringing out the problems faced by the children in our country.

Inspection from Education Department
The inspection from the education department, Hubli was held as they checked the books of record and documents. They appreciated the work of maintaining the documents.

19/06/2018- Formation of school cabinet
Our school took keen interest towards overall growth of both personal and institutional development as there was formation of student leaders. Arshan G.   of class X as S P L and Avani Joshi of class IX as asst . S P L and leaders for other clubs and unit were elected and the badges were distributed mentioning their responsibilities as good leaders to help every students with their best ability.

07/06/2018- Cancer awareness campaign
The Lion Club of Bangalore visited our school to give awareness about the disease and suggested some of the ways to adopt suitable habits in order to minimize the risk of getting cancer. The students from I to PUC contributed financial help for the victims of cancer. The Lion Club was happy to receive from us Rs. 11,648/- for helping the victims.

05/06/2018- Environment Day
Our school and college students along with teaching and non-teaching staff and with few parents celebrated environment day meaningfully. Many events such as presentation of posters, Slogan writing, Moral skit and dance and rally with saplings to distribute to the people of our locality made students to know the importance of protecting nature. Many people appreciated this activity.

01/06/2018- Re-opening of school
The Students after the summer holidays were back to school. The teachers welcomed them with a beautiful prayer service during assembly. The Headmistress Sr Lucy D’souza addressed the students with an inspiring words and motivated them to do well in their academic studies. The theme ‘Save the earth, heal the earth’ for the year 2018-19 was creatively presented before students where the responsibilities of each one were highlighted.
