Kudige is a village in the southern State of Karnataka in the SomawarpetTaluk, Kodagu (Coorg) District. It is five kilometres from Kushal nagar on the Merkara – Hassan State Highway. Fr Angelo Pais the parish priest of the newly established parish of Kudige invited the Ursuline Sisters to his parish as he had witnessed their work in the remote villages of Mysore among the economically backward people. He wanted them to establish a school and his dream was realized as Sr. Leena Mascarenhas, the Provincial Superior of Mysore and Sr. Emily D’Souza the then Deputy Secretary of UFES responded positively after having visited the place. In the year 2006 Sisters Benvita D’Souza and Ranitha Claudiet arrived at Kudige as pioneers.
The Educational Endeavour began in a small rented house with the opening of a nursery school with 19 students. Sr. Benvita an experienced teacher as well as headmistress, along with Sr. Ranitha made sure that these 19 students got the best. Simultaneously two and a half acres of land was bought in view of constructing a school. Sr. Benvita a person who believed that determination is a gateway to success got the land converted and began the construction of the school building. Initially a three-room building was constructed to meet the immediate need of classrooms.
Financing the construction was the greatest challenge; but God intervened miraculously through the person of Don Francesco and his associates especially Marilena Ferrari. Their goodwill and generosity resulted in a spacious 18 classroom structure. Thereafter Mysore Province financed the construction of a computer lab, library, reading room and auditorium.
Sr. Benvita D’Souza headed the School from 2006 to 2012 then Sr. Roopa Lopes headed the School in the year 2012-13 Sr. Carmella (Carmine D’Souza) followed her and was the head of the school during the year 2013-2014. Since 01-12-2014 Sr. Veena Vijaya Castelino is the Principal of the School.
